To support livestock farming in Narok County, the Government through the Regional Pastoral Livelihoods Resilience Project (RPLRP) is pumping Sh 171 Million which will be used in the construction of livestock markets and boreholes.
Further, the Government has issued
700,000 doses of livestock drugs to fight common and contagious goat and sheep
illnesses.
Commenting on the move, Livestock
Principal Secretary, Harry Kimutai said that this project is expected to
provide better anchorage to the livelihoods of Narok county residents. He
called on the County Government of Narok to continue supporting the project by
putting in place a functioning board that will oversee successful
implementation.
The RPLRP project has been in
existence for the last seven years and is expected to be completed by the end
of the year. So far, a total of seven boreholes and six livestock markets have
been constructed in the county.
On its part, the Narok County
government under the leadership of Governor Samuel Tanui has allotted resources
to boost the livestock farming in the region. In 2018, the county distributed 30
bulls of exotic breed cross all wards to upgrade the local breed.
The RPLRP project is funded by
the World Bank and is meant to boost the economic standards of the people from
the pastoral region.
